Story Retelling using Explain Everything

Jimmy is retelling the story of 'Training Ruby'.

Gardening

Kowhai class help to look after the vegetable gardens at Oruaiti School. On Friday we planted the spinach that Mr and Mrs Ralph grew from seeds. We liked digging the holes!

Blu and Ollie could look down on the vegetable gardens from this tall stump.

We like exploring in the bush when we are finished gardening.

Mother's Day Writing

This is a tribute to the wonderful mothers teaching their children at home during the lockdown. You are doing a fabulous job. What amazing writers we have because of you!

This week students in Kowhai were asked to write about why they love their mum and tell about a time mum made them laugh. Our writing goal has been to include describing words. Here is what they wrote...

Dayna wrote, "Mum always tickles me on the couch. It makes me laugh a lot."

Lilly gave her writing a title: 'I love Mum'

Astra wrote, "I love my mum because she bakes the best yummy cake."
Then, "I laughed when mum called the dogs little mongrels".

Scout wrote, "My mum gives me cuddles. She is beautiful and always kisses me."

Jimmy wrote "I like Mum. Mum's cooking is yummy."
Then, "We went bike riding and my mum fell off her bike. It was funny."

And Blu wrote, "My mum makes me laugh when we play the funny tickle game. I giggle and so does my mummy."

Zoom, Zoom, Zoom

For our Fun Day Friday craft last week, Hannah showed us how to make rockets. We have been blasting them off in our Zoom Zoom Zoom song this week during our morning google meet session. Kowhai class is getting pretty good at counting backwards from 20.

Fun Day Friday Leaf Art

Hannah showed us her art that she made with leaves. We collected our leaves and had a go at making our own pictures. Kowhai students have great imaginations. Look at the variety of ideas we had in just one small class. Amazing! Thanks Hannah for doing art with us online.

Our caterpillar

Kowhai class have been watching caterpillars make a chrysallis. One caterpillar has hatched already. We have eight more pupa (chrysallis) on our swan plant. When will they all hatch into monarch butterflies?
